MADISON, N.J. (October 10, 2007) – Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Smith notched a match-high 11 saves on Wednesday night at Ranger Stadium but it wasn't enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team snapped a six-game winning streak against Drew University by a final score of 2-0. With the loss, the Ducks drop to 10-3 on the season while the Rangers improve their overall mark on the year to 8-4.
Drew jumped out to an early lead in the 17th-minute when sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Law (Manahawkin, N.J.) found the back of the net on a feed from sophomore midfielder Nicole DiBattista (Newton, N.J.). Then, at the 68th-minute, senior attacker Jen Schoepflin (Sewell, N.J.) capped off the scoring on an unassisted effort.
Smith recorded a game-high 11 stops for the Ducks while sophomore goaltender Stef Rutkowski (Wilmington, Del.) turned nine shots aside for the Rangers. Drew owned an 18-16 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.
Head Coach Jessica Reed and the Ducks return to action this Saturday when they return home to host Empire 8 foe Elmira College at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Face-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
