UTICA, N.Y. (October 20, 2007) – Freshman back/forward Katria Misilo scored with 5:31 remaining in regulation as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team posted its sixth win in a row with a 1-0 victory over Utica College on Saturday in Utica, N.Y. The win, which was the third-straight 1-0 triumph against conference opponents by Stevens, clinched a berth in the postseason for the Ducks (11-3-1, 6-1 Empire 8).
Following a scoreless first half, Stevens was finally able to break through in the 85th minute when Misilo beat Utica senior goalkeeper Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, Conn.) to the ball near the box and chipped a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Misilo nearly scored in the first half, but she hit the crossbar on a shot that could have given the Ducks an early lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Jenn Pontier improved to 6-0 in her career and posted her sixth-straight shutout as she made four saves in the contest. Kaufman finished with one stop for the Pioneers, who dropped their third game in a row to fall to 7-5-1 overall (4-1-1 Empire 8).
In the game, Stevens owned an 8-6 edge in shots. The Ducks had six corner kicks to just two by Utica.
At 6-1 in the conference, Stevens currently sits in second place with 18 points. Ithaca College is 7-0 and has locked up the top seed. The Ducks can secure the No. 2 seed with a win at home over Hartwick College next Saturday. Prior to that, Stevens will hit the road to take on 16th-ranked Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. That contest will be played in Danbury, Conn.
