ALFRED, N.Y. (October 21, 2007) – Five different players on the No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team registered at least one goal on Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field as the Ducks downed the Saxons of Alfred University by a final score of 5-2 in Empire 8 action. With the win, Stevens improved its overall record on the year to 13-1-2 with a conference mark of 5-0 while Alfred dropped to 3-10-1 with a 0-5 tally in league play.

The Ducks, who out-shot the Saxons by a 26-8 count on the day, jumped out to an early lead in the second-minute when senior forward Mike Kaiser found the back of the net on an unassisted effort. Then, in the 13th-minute, sophomore forward Terrance Johnson scored without an assist being credited on the play. Three minutes later, Stevens added to the lead as sophomore forward Todd Sheridan punched a shot past the diving Alfred junior goaltender Patrick Grimmer (Bath, N.Y.) to give the Ducks a 3-0 advantage.

However, in the 24th-minute, the Saxons finally reached the scoreboard when junior midfielder Adam Nudd (Bath, N.Y.) chipped a ball over the outstretched arms of the Ducks' freshman goalkeeper Zach Carr to pull within two scores. But, in the 60th-minute, senior midfielder Vesh Tivzenda collected his first goal of the season to take back the three-goal lead. Seven minutes later, junior forward Erick Muse ended off the scoring for Stevens off a feed from junior midfielder Jeremy Lippel. Then, in the 72nd-minute, Alfred capped off the match with a tally from sophomore midfielder/forward Tyler Parke (Hammondsport, N.Y.). Senior defender Zach Wise (Eliot, Maine) was tabbed with the assist on the play.

Carr made two saves on the afternoon for the Ducks while Grimmer turned a game-high eight shots aside for the Saxons. Stevens also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Tim O'Donohue and the Ducks return to action tomorrow when they continue their three-game road swing at St. John Fisher College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
