HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 3, 2007) – Freshman forward Lauren Griggs and sophomore forward Kara Borzillo each recorded a pair of tallies on Wednesday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team blanked Manhattanville College, 4-0. With the win, the Ducks claimed their fifth victory in a row to move to 9-2 on the year, while the Valiants dropped their second straight contest to go to 7-4.

Stevens, who out-shot Manhattanville by a 37-1 count on the day, opened up the scoring in the 44th-minute when Griggs tipped in a shot into the left side of the cage on a feed from junior midfielder Allison Shields. Five minutes later, Griggs found the top-right corner of the net on a cross-pass from junior midfielder Hillary Paul.

Then, at the 55th-minute, Borzillo notched her first of two scores in the match when she pushed a shot past Valiants' goaltender Lauren Gagnon (Staffordville, Conn.) on a rebound shot by Paul. Three minutes later, Borzillo found the back of the goal once again as she chipped a ball into the left corner of the cage on a cross-pass from sophomore forward Courtney Geddis.

Gagnon made a game-high 18 saves for Manhattanville, while Stevens' junior goalkeeper Stephanie Smith did not face a shot to preserve the shutout. The Ducks also owned a 21-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Head Coach Jessica Reed and the Ducks return to action this Sunday when they start a two-game road swing in Rochester, N.Y. against Nazareth College. The opening face-off is slated for 12 Noon.
