Win Streak Reaches 14 as Stevens Dominates Vassar in Three Games

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 3, 2007) – Junior outside hitter Melanie Volk registered 11 kills, nine digs, five service aces and a pair of blocks as the 21st-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept Vassar College in three games (30-17, 30-27, 30-17) on Wednesday at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken N.J. Volk was recently named the Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week as the Ducks soar to their 14th-straight win.

Freshman libero Julia Reilly led the Ducks in digs with 15, while junior middle blocker Jessica Gardner posted four kills, four digs and four service aces. Junior middle blocker Summer Hamilton and freshman right-side hitter Maggie Majcher each collected five kills. Hamilton added a pair of blocks, and Majcher finished with one.

The Ducks received a strong performance from junior setter/right-side hitter Melissa Rhode, who amassed 17 assists, five kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks. Senior outside hitter Dawn Herring chipped in with 10 digs and three kills, while freshman setter Kaitlyn Taylor finished with 12 assists and four digs.

The Brewers (14-5) were led by sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Ly, who recorded nine kills, six digs and three service aces. Senior setter Alia Al-Khatib had 19 assists and six digs, while sophomore outside hitter Tess Johnson added 11 digs, six kills and three blocks.

The Ducks return to action next Wednesday as they take on the Mariners of the Unites States Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. in Kings Point, N.Y.
