Paul's 93rd-Minute Tally Lifts Field Hockey to 2-1 Win Against Nazareth in Double-Overtime

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 7, 2007) – Junior midfielder Hillary Paul notched the game-winning goal with 7:54 remaining in the second overtime period on Sunday afternoon as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey squad defeated Nazareth College on the road by a count of 2-1. With the victory, the Ducks improved their overall record to 10-2 on the season with a 2-1 mark in conference play while the Golden Flyers dropped to 6-4 with a 1-2 mark in the Empire 8.

Nazareth reached the scoreboard first in the 28th-minute when sophomore forward Kelly Flanagan (Fairport, N.Y.) put a ball into the back of the cage off a feed from senior forward Kelly Miranda (Ossining, N.Y.). Then, in the 60th-minute, Stevens knotted the contest up at 1-1 when Paul recorded her first of two marks on the day on a pass from junior midfielder Allison Shields.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Ducks won the match in the 92nd-minute on a tally by Paul, who ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Stevens' junior goaltender Stephanie Smith stopped nine shots while Nazareth junior goalkeeper Katie May (Rochester, N.Y.) made a game-high 11 saves.

Head Coach Jessica Reed and the Ducks return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Madison, N.J. to square off with the Rangers of Drew University. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
