Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Cabrini, 16-7

Sophomore Cassidy Callahan picked up two goals for the Ducks against Cabrini.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 22, 2007) – Junior attack Katelyn Penrose (Springfield, Pa.) led Cabrini College with five goals as it defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team on Thursday evening in Hoboken, N.J.  With the loss, the Ducks moved to 3-3 overall, while the Cavaliers improved to 3-1 with the win.

Cabrini jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the first four minutes of the game.  Within a 3:56 span, the Cavaliers netted two goals off free-position shots to increase their lead to 5-0.

Sophomore defender/midfielder Cassidy Callahan (Skaneateles, N.Y.) netted the Ducks first goal of the game off a free-position shot at the 12:02 mark.

Freshman attack Danielle Rothermel (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal and senior attack April Kaufmann (Boothwyn, Pa.) scored on a free-position shot to give the Cavaliers a 7-1 advantage with 5:05 remaining in the first half. 

Freshman midfielder Alyssa Pigott (Jobstown, Pa.) tallied her first goal of the day with under a minute remaining, but Cabrini’s freshman attack Erin Nollen (West Chester, Pa.) netted a goal with 17 seconds on the clock to give the Cavaliers an 8-2 lead at the break.

Cabrini scored the first four goals of the second half to jump out to a 12-2 lead.  After freshman attack Katie Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J.) netted a goal off a pass from junior attack Liz Mather (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), the Cavaliers totaled the next four goals within a 5:06 span.

Pigott picked up three goals and Callahan added one in the last eight minutes of the game for Stevens.

Pigott finished the game with four goals.  Mather picked up two assists and freshman midfielder Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) had one.  In goal, junior Stephanie Linder (Eatontown, N.J.) totaled nine saves in the game for the Ducks.

Stevens is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to Stevenson, Md. to play Villa Julie College at 3:30 p.m.
