STEVENSON, Md. (March 24, 2007) – Sophomore midfielder Amanda Carr (Crownsville, Md.) netted five goals to lead Villa Julie College past the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team, 17-7, on Saturday afternoon in Stevenson, Md. With the loss, the Ducks fell to 3-4, while Villa Julie improved to 4-5 with the win. Sophomore Dana Perriello (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Ducks with three goals in the game.
Villa Julie took a 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Lauren Zegowitz (Gaithersburg, Md.) tallied the first goal 33 seconds into the game.
Freshman midfielder Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) netted the Ducks first goal of the game on a pass from junior midfielder Liz Mather (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) at the 28:32 mark. Freshman midfielder Alyssa Pigott (Jobstown, Pa.) scored on a pass from Borzillo less than two minutes later and Perriello picked up her first goal to give Stevens a 3-1 advantage.
The Mustangs scored the next three goals within a 6:11 span to regain a 4-3 edge over the Ducks. Perriello knotted the score at 4-4 with 4:12 remaining in the half, but Zegowitz gave Villa Julie the halftime advantage with 19 seconds on the clock.
The Mustangs went on to score 10 consecutive goals in the second half to jump out to a 15-4 lead. Perriello and Pigott each scored for the Ducks at the 8:48 and 6:40 marks before junior attack/midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Burnie, Md.) grabbed an unassisted goal for Villa Julie. Carr finished the scoring for the Mustangs with 29 seconds left in the game. Junior midfielder/attack Kaitlyn Roes (Stillwater, N.J.) added one more goal for Stevens.
In the game, Villa Julie held a 39-17 advantage in shots.
Junior Stephanie Linder (Eatontown, N.J.) totaled 14 saves in goal for Stevens.
Stevens is back in action on Friday, when it travels to Purchase, N.Y. to play Manhattanville College at 7:30 p.m.
