MADISON, N.J. (April 11, 2007) – Junior midfielder Lindsey Perno (Medford, N.J.) tallied eight points from three goals and five assists to go along with three ground balls and eight draw controls as the Drew University women’s lacrosse team recorded a 17-9 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening in Madison, N.J. With the victory, the Rangers improved to 8-3 on the year. The Ducks fell to 5-6 overall with the loss.
Freshman midfielder Alyssa Pigott (Jobstown, N.J.) collected two goals, an assist and three draw controls for Stevens. Sophomore attack Dana Perriello (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added two goals and an assist in the loss. Freshman midfielder Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) finished with three draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Linder (Eatontown, N.J.) made nine saves in 52 minutes of action.
Drew also received a solid performance out of senior attack Alexandra Bailly (Albany, N.Y.), who registered four goals, four ground balls and two draw controls. Freshman goalkeeper Stefanie Rutkowski (Wilmington, Del.) totaled six saves on the evening.
The Rangers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 29 seconds into the contest as freshman attack/midfielder Morgan Kenney (Scituate, Mass.) scored off a pass from Perno. With 2:25 elapsed in the game, Stevens tied the score as Perriello found junior attack/midfielder Kaitlyn Roes (Stillwater, N.J.) for her fifth goal of the season.
The Rangers responded by scoring four straight goals and seven of the next eight overall within a 10-minute span to grab an 8-2 lead with 17:15 left in the first half. The Ducks tallied two of the final three goals in the period as they trailed 9-4 at halftime. Drew put the contest away in the second half by out-scoring Stevens 8-5 over the final 30 minutes.
For the game, the Rangers owned the edge in shots (41-28), ground balls (20-17) and draw controls (18-10). The Ducks were a perfect 5-for-5 in clears but just 1-for-5 on free-position shots. Drew converted on five of six clearing attempts and was 0-for-4 on free-position shots.
Stevens will be back in action on Saturday with a Skyline Conference game against Centenary College. That contest will begin at 1 p.m. in Hackettstown, N.J.
