HAVERFORD, Pa. (September 12, 2007) – Junior middle blocker Jessica Gardner registered 13 kills, five digs, six blocks and a pair of service aces as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season to the 16th-ranked Fords of Haverford College on Wednesday in Haverford Pa. Gardner posted a .345 hitting percentage, however the effort was not good enough as the Ducks went down in four games (26-30, 23-30, 30-20, 29-31).

Juniors Melissa Rhode and Melanie Volk led the team in kills (15 each) and posted four blocks apiece. Rhode also amassed 17 digs and 29 assists, while producing a hitting percentage of .306. Senior outside hitter Dawn Herring accumulated 10 kills, 17 digs and one block.

The Ducks received a strong showing from freshman right-side hitter Maggie Majcher and junior middle blocker Summer Hamilton. Majcher chipped in with six kills and two digs, while Hamilton posted seven kills and four blocks. The Ducks moved to 6-1 on the season with the potential of playing two more ranked-teams later in the schedule.

Sophomore sisters Rebecca Salvo (La Canada, Calif.) and Rachel Salvo (La Canada, Calif.) dominated the match for the Fords as they registering 13 and 18 kills, respectively. Rebecca recorded 22 digs, while Rachel had 19 and each of them posted two blocks apiece.

Stevens will return to play this Saturday as the Ducks take on the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University in Swarthmore, Pa. at 2 p.m.
