HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 12, 2008) – Freshman Laura Barito and sophomore Gabrielle Czernik each recorded two top finishes on Saturday afternoon as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team defeated Montclair State University, 126-73, at the De Baun Aquatic Center in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks improved to 3-0 in dual-meet action, while the Red Hawks dropped to 3-5.
Barito took home first-place points in the 50-yard freestyle (25.58) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.22), while Czernik was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke with respective times of 2:20.75 and 2:17.96. Junior Emily Woo added a first-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:03.65 clocking. Freshman Amanda Nauman garnered first-place honors in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:32.12.
Montclair State was led by senior Tracey Groel (Succasunna, N.J.) and freshman Galina Loutchouk (Richboro, Pa.). Groel won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.80, while Loutchouk snatched top accolades in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a clocking of 11:14.66
Head Coach Trevor Miele and his squad return to the pool this Wednesday when they travel up the New York State Thruway to take on SUNY New Paltz. The first event is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
