No. 11 Men's Soccer Crushes Kean, 6-0

UNION, N.J. (October 11, 2008) – On Saturday afternoon in Union, N.J., the No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team dominated Kean University, 6-0. The Ducks took 38 shots on an afternoon that they were ahead for 87:10 of game time. Junior captain Todd Sheridan scored two goals on the day and sophomore Zach Carr got the win in goal. It is the fourth-straight win and shutout for the Ducks (11-1-1).

The Ducks had a two-goal lead before anyone could blink as senior Jeremy Lippel scored at the 2:50 mark, and sophomore Nolan Sandberg scored at 5:16. Sandberg assisted Lippel's sixth tally of the year, and senior captain Craig Moquin was credited with the assist on the Sandberg goal. Sandberg has now scored in three-straight contests and has been involved in three-straight game-winning goals.

Stevens went up 3-0 when Sheridan put in his first unassisted at 18:19. In the 37th-minute, junior Al Lockhart recorded his first of the year. The Lockhart goal was unassisted as well. 

The Ducks took 24 shots in the first half, compared to just two for Kean (4-9-1) as Stevens ended with a 38-6 shot advantage. Stevens has taken a remarkable 73 shots in its last two contests, and is now outshooting its opponents 276-83 on the year.

In the second half, the Ducks added two more scores for the final margin. Sheridan scored his second from Lockhart at 48:16 and junior John Radvany notched his first of the season 1:59 later.

Carr was strong in net, making five saves. He is now 11-1-1 this season.

Since the Ducks fell to Swarthmore College on September 13, they have gone 5-0-1 and have outscored their opponents 25-1.

“We came out ready to go today,” Head Coach Tim O'Donohue said following the game. “Right from the start, things came together nicely for us and we played a strong 90 minutes.”

The Ducks return to action when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday evening at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
