HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 25, 2008) – Senior forward Meghan Tennyson tallied the game winner with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team earn its 11th win of the season and fourth Empire 8 victory as the Ducks took down Utica College 2-1 in Hoboken, N.J. The senior posted her first goal of the season, which could not have came at a better time as the Ducks honored its senior class in their last home-day game of the 2008 season.

Stevens got on the board first when senior center back Salme Cook landed her 12th score of the season at the 34-minute mark. A corner kick was played in by sophomore forward Katria Misilo, who found freshman back/midfielder Heather Goldberg. Goldberg was able to head the ball across the face of the goal as Cook finished it inside the left post. Stevens out-shot and out-cornered the Pioneers in the first half 11-3 and 4-1, respectively.

Just over 22 minutes into the second half, Utica recorded its only score of the game when the ball was played back to freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin McClymont. McClymont dove for the ball and could not corral it as junior forward Danielle Smith (Verona, N.Y.) was there to tap the ball through to knot the game at 1-all.

With 20 seconds left in regulation, Stevens lined up for a corner kick off the right side. Junior back/midfielder Kate Stewart played the ball in, which crossed the mouth of the goal. Cook was there to head the ball back to the middle of the box to find Tennyson, who dramatically back headed the ball into the top-right corner. The last two seniors to touch the ball on Senior Day secured the Ducks chances of postseason play. With the victory Stevens moves to 11-4-1 on the year and 4-3 in Empire 8 play.

Overall the Ducks out-shot and out-cornered Utica 20-6 and 8-2, respectively. McClymont was credited with the win, her fifth of the season (5-2) as she played all 90 minutes having recorded a pair of saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Lawrie (East Sandwich, Mass.) received the loss (4-7-2) as she was in net for the entire contest having allowed two goals while she made seven stops.

The Ducks return to action in their last home match of the 2008 season on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup against Western Connecticut University. Game time is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Hoboken, N.J.
