ONEONTA, N.Y. (November 1, 2008) – Junior midfielder/forward Leslie Kallberg scored her third goal of the season to break a 1-1 tie as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team defeated Hartwick College in the last regular season matchup for both squads. With the win the Ducks have secured the fourth seed in this year's Empire 8 Championship and will head to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Ithaca College next week. Stevens wrapped up the regular season having gone 5-3 in league play and 12-4-2 overall.

As time expired in the first half, Stevens got off a corner kick played in by Kallberg. Freshman back/midfielder Heather Goldberg was on the receiving end as she ripped a shot just past the outstretched arms of freshman goalkeeper Kellyn Rowse (East Greenbush, N.Y.) for her second score of the season. At that point, the Ducks went into half having owned an advantage in shots and corners, 8-0 and 2-0, respectively.

Just over 18 minutes into the second half, the Hawks knotted the contest at 1-all off the foot of senior midfielder Brittany Pine (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) on an unassisted tally. The Ducks responded though, at the 82-minute mark. With the clock winding down, Stevens was in need of a score. Senior center back Salme Cook sent a nice lead pass to senior forward Meghan Tennyson, who was able to control it and make a great pass to Kallberg, just behind the defenders. Kallberg was able to finish the two-pass 60-yard play for her third score of the season.

The Ducks out-shot and out-corned Hartwick 15-3 and 2-0, respectively. Rowse was tabbed with the loss as she pulled in four saves. In goal for Stevens was sophomore keeper Jenn Pontier. She earned her seventh win (7-2-2) of the season as she hauled in a save.

Stevens will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. next Saturday to compete in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship against the Bombers of Ithaca. Start time has yet to be determined. The last time these two teams squared off was on September 27, when Ithaca snapped the Ducks' 44-game home unbeaten streak.
