Women's Lacrosse Wins Second Straight at Farmingdale, 17-4

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (March 2, 2008) – Sophomore attacker Alyssa Pigott tallied a game-high five goals on Sunday afternoon to push the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team to a 17-4 win over SUNY Farmingdale in Farmingdale, N.Y. She also picked up six ground balls and won four draw controls for the Ducks (2-0).

Freshman attacker Leah Wasserman and sophomore attacker Katie Lalli each netted three goals. Freshman midfielder Christine Smith found the inside of the cage two times. Senior attacker Liz Mather dished out four assists. Freshman attacker Michelle Buonacuore recorded two goals and two assists.

The Rams (0-1) were led by freshman attacker Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y.), who registered two goals and three ground balls. Junior attacker Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) added a marker and an assist. She also earned a team-high two draw controls.

Tied at 1-1 with 22-plus minutes to go in the opening half, Stevens recorded eight unanswered goals to head into the locker room ahead by a 9-1 score. Pigott scored three consecutive goals at the 16:58, 13:39 and 12:17 marks, respectively. Wasserman contributed a hat trick in that time, while Lalli closed out the period with a goal from the stick of freshman midfielder Pamela Loria.

In the second half, the Ducks wasted no time getting back to work as they opened up the scoring with a goal from Smith. She also struck the netting again at the 21:33 mark off a feed from Mather to give the Ducks a 10-2 lead. Pigott followed with a tally of her own to add to the visitors' benefit.

After a score from Rokee cut the Farmingdale deficit to eight (11-3), Stevens totaled four unanswered to put the contest away for good. Lalli fired in a pair of goals in that time.

Rams' senior goaltender Janine Forman (North Massapequa, N.Y.) made a game-high 17 saves. Senior keeper Stephanie Linder stopped seven shots for the Ducks.

Stevens held a 49-14 advantage in shots and a 43-25 gain in ground balls. It also won 16 draw controls to seven for Farmingdale. On clear attempts, both teams were perfect as the Ducks were 12-of-12 and the Rams were 21-of-21.

Stevens returns to action this Saturday when it hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The opening draw is slated for 11 a.m.
