HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 13, 2008) – Junior Kara Borzillo scored three times as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Richard Stockton College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The win moves the Ducks' record to a perfect 5-0, which is the best start in the history of the Stevens field hockey program.

The Stevens defense had another stellar day as the Ducks pitched their fourth shutout in five 2008 games. Senior Casey Scherck, junior Elizabeth Zmijewski, junior Erin Broderick, and senior Kerri Polidore were all fantastic on the defensive end of the field. It seemed like they shut-down any offensive chance the Ospreys had within a matter of seconds.

Ellyn Griggs was once again in goal for the Ducks. The sophomore made three saves on the day and earned her fifth win of the season.

The Ducks were sluggish on the offensive in the first half as they could only tally one first half goal. It was the first of Borzillo's three scores, and it came off a feed from Allison Basile.

The score remained the same until the 47th minute when Borzillo deflected in a pass from senior Hillary Paul. Stevens pushed the score to 3-0 when Polidore set up Borzillo to make it a hat trick. Pollidore angled a pass from right to left across the box, and the junior forward was wide open for her eighth goal of the season.

Broderick scored her third of the year after she knocked home an Allison Shields rebound. Shields, who played well the entire contest, was credited with the assist.

Paul scored the fifth and final goal of the game as she put in a rebound from Borzillo. It was the fifth goal of the season for the senior tri-captain.

Stevens held a huge, 16-4 advantage in penalty corners and a 20-5 advantage in shots. After their average offensive first half, the Ducks came out and took 13 shots in the second stanza and completely overwhelmed Stockton.

Christine Harvey (Edgewood, Md.) faced many of those Stevens shots in net for Richard Stockton (0-3) as she made five saves in 60-plus minutes of action.

The Ducks will return to the field on Wednesday evening at Manhattanville College. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
