HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 20, 2008) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team continued its winning ways with a dominating 4-0 win over defending Empire 8 Champion Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The Ducks scored 3:47 into the contest and never looked back as they held the visiting Golden Flyers to one shot the entire game.

Freshman Mallory Swanson got the scoring started when she was able to find net after a scrum in front. It was her second goal of the season, and it set the tone for the contest.

Senior tri-captain Hillary Paul returned after missing one game because of an injury and was all over the field. She took five shots, three on goal and was responsible for the second Stevens (7-0,1-0 Empire 8) goal. Junior Jessica Ablonczy tapped a pass to her right, and Paul blasted a shot past Nazareth keeper Kelsey Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) from 12 yards out. It was her sixth goal of the season.

Nazareth's (2-3, 0-1 Empire 8) one opportunity came and went midway through the first half as Stevens keeper Ellyn Griggs was able to make the save. Griggs is now 7-0 on the season.

Junior Kara Borzillo scored her team-high 10th and 11th goals of the season to cap the scoring. With 2:18 left in the first half she put the Ducks up 3-0 off an assist from senior tri-captain Allison Shields, and in the 61st minute Swanson took a shot and Borzillo was able to put in the rebound.

The Stevens defense and midfield controlled the entire game as the ball rarely left the Nazareth zone. Stevens has shutout six of seven 2008 opponents.

Evans made seven saves in goal for Nazareth and was under constant pressure from the Stevens (7-0, 1-0 Empire 8) offense. Stevens ended with a 17-1 advantage in shots and a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Ducks will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they host Susquehanna University at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
