MAHWAH, N.J. (October 21, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team moved to 18-7 on the season after cruising to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 26-24) victory over the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, N.J. Junior Sarah Byrne had 13 kills and teammate Maggie Majcher added 10 of her own to lead the Stevens offense. The Ducks' attack also featured an impressive performance from junior setter Sara Budar, who registered 35 assists in the match.
After holding Ramapo to a paltry .185 hitting percentage en route to a 25-21 victory in the first set, Stevens hit a match high .345 while taking the second set, 25-17. The Ducks would close out the Roadrunners in the third and final set, 26-24, holding Ramapo to a .132 hitting percentage.
Byrne added six digs and two blocks in the win, while freshman Michelle Plotzker finished with seven kills. Senior newcomer Brittany Fuller tallied six kills, with junior libero Julia Reilly collecting a team-high 11 digs.
Sophomore Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, N.J.) led the Roadrunners offensively, tallying nine kills, while fellow sophomore's Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, N.J.) and Kimberly Runge (Closter, N.J.) added six kills apiece, with Runge posting a match-high 13 digs. Sophomore setter Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) dished out 22 assists in the loss.
Stevens will next compete at the Empire 8's second Crossover Weekend hosted by Nazareth College on October 23-24. The Ducks face league rivals Rochester Institute of Technology and Alfred University in the first day of competition before squaring off with Elmira College and host Nazareth on October 24.
