Women's Swimming Goes 1-1 at NYU Fall Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 24, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team went 1-1 at the 2009 New York University Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Manhattan, N.Y. The Ducks cruised to a 77-45 win over SUNY New Paltz but fell to NYU by the same score. Sophomore Sian Pearson led Stevens with three first-place finishes on the afternoon.

Pearson's first win came in the 200-yard butterfly as she carded a time of 2:12.31. Junior Laura Barito placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, touching at 24.58. Senior Stephanie Miller earned a second-place finish for the Ducks in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.59), and Pearson earned win number two in the 500-yard freestyle. She turned in a time 5:13.29 and junior Amanda Nauman placed fourth in the same event (5:26.26).

Barito earned another win in the 100-yard butterfly, turning in a 1:00.27, and freshman Alexandra Coffaro was third (1:03.16). Freshmen Marissa Douglas and Natalie Fitz placed second and third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.98, 2:19.11), and the team of sophomore Hayley Hatfield, sophomore Cailin Grunewald, freshman Allison Henning, and Pearson took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:46.78).

Nauman placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:01.78, and Miller recorded the same finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.26).

Stevens will return to action on November 1 when it hosts The College of New Jersey in the De Baun Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
