HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 3, 2009) - Junior Katria Misilo scored the game-winner in the 14th minute and junior Mary Chew tallied twice as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team defeated visiting Alfred University, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The win is the third in a row for the Ducks who are now 3-8-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Empire 8. Freshman Gia Gonzalez notched the fourth and final Stevens goal.

Stevens had many chances early on but scored its first goal at the 13:43 mark thanks to a perfect service on a free kick from senior Katelyn Stewart. An Alfred foul was committed 21 yards out on the top-right corner of the box. Stewart took the free kick and found Misilo wide-open in front for the header into the right side of the cage. It was Misilo's second goal of the year and Stewart's second assist.

The Ducks took a commanding 2-0 lead in the 27th minute on a beautiful goal. Schuckers made some slick moves with the ball at the top of the box on the right side and was able to angle her way into the goalie box. At the last possible moment, she crossed to Chew in front for the header. It was a perfectly placed shot and an even better placed pass from the Stevens sophomore.

Just 4:12 later, Stevens extended to lead to 3-0 when Chew banged home a Shuckers rebound for a score. It was Chew's third goal of the season.

Stevens ended the first half with an amazing 25-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corners as the Ducks controlled the ball for more than 90 percent of game time and rarely allowed the Saxons' offense over midfield.

Stevens did not let up at all in the opening moments of the second half, generating several great chances and scoring its fourth goal of the game 5:16 in. Gonzalez, who played a fantastic all-around game, had the ball deep in the right corner. She lofted a shot from 30 yards out and it hit the far post and bounced in for a pretty score.

The chances continued for the Ducks the rest of the way but 4-0 would be the final margin. Senior goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg, who replaced sophomore Kaitlyn McClymont at the half, made two diving saves to preserve the Ducks' second shutout in three games.

Stevens concluded the game with a 7-1 edge in corners and a 45-6 advantage in shots. McClymont earned the win in goal for Stevens, but Rosenberg had a team-high four saves. Alfred keeper Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, Ariz.) played very well in net despite allowing four goals. She was credited with 16 stops, several being spectacular.

Stevens will host national power The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The game will be webcast live at www.Empire8.tv for those unable to make the trip to Hoboken.
