Women's Swimming Falls to TCNJ, 150-112

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 1, 2009) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team fell to The College of New Jersey by a score of 150-112 on Sunday afternoon at the De Baun Aquatic Center in Hoboken, N.J. Stevens was led by sophomore Sian Pearson and junior Laura Barito who each won two events. With the loss, the Ducks drop to 2-2 on the season and will return to action against Misericordia University on November 14.

Stevens opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as senior Gabrielle Czernik, senior Stephanie Miller, freshman Marissa Douglas, and Barito turned in a 1:52.80. Freshman Victoria Baldwin and junior Amanda Nauman took second and third in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:06.02, 11:07.43), and Pearson and Douglas did the same in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.16, 2:00.57).

Freshman Natalie Fitz touched at 1:05.00 in the 100-yard backstroke and finished third as Miller took third as well in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a time of 1:11.79. Pearson won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.61 and Nauman placed third (2:24.14), and Barito won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.66. She also took the 100-free, touching at 53.73.

Douglas placed second with a time of 2:15.29 in the 200-yard backstroke and Miller finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke. Pearson's second win came in the 500-free as she recorded a 5:16.29, and freshman Alex Coffaro took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.21). Douglas won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.45, and the team of Pearson, sophomore Deanna Carrazza, freshman Allison Henning, and Barito carded a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle.

November 14's dual-meet against Misericordia will take place at the De Baun Aquatic Center and is slated for a 1 p.m. start. All the action will be webcast live at www.PennAtlantic.com/main.php
