HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 5, 2009) – After falling behind 1-0 less than one minute into the game, the No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team scored 14-straight goals en route to a 16-2 dismantling of Elmira College on Sunday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Sophomores Pamela Loria, Leah Wasserman, and Karen Federico all tallied three goals as the Ducks won for a program-record 10th game in a row. The 14 consecutive scores came over a period of 43:53 and Elmira only totaled nine shots in the contest. The Ducks are now a perfect 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8.
Stevens controlled every aspect of the game. The Ducks ended with a 32-9 advantage in shots and a 27-16 edge in ground balls. Stevens won 13 draw controls compared to seven for Elmira (1-8, 0-3 Empire 8), and the Ducks converted 5-of-8 free-position shots.
Senior Grace Sack played the first half in goal and made three saves before giving way to junior Shannon McFadden. McFadden also stopped three shots, and each keeper allowed one Soaring Eagles goal.
Junior Alyssa Pigott finished a game-high four points (two goals, two assists) and four ground balls, and sophomore Kate Cox paced the defense with six caused turnovers and five ground balls. Junior Katie Lalli was solid, finding net once and assisting on two other scores as junior Fionuala Quinn did the same.
Freshman Jenna Scheibling recorded a goal, a ground ball, a team-high four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Junior Kara Borzillo and senior Cassidy Callahan each scooped up two ground balls and caused two Elmira turnovers.
After the early Soaring Eagle score, sophomore midfielder Christine Smith knotted the game at one 1:10 into the action. Wasserman then netted three in a row over 8:12 of game time to give the Ducks a 4-1 lead. Pigott then scored two straight as Federico followed with three of her own to push the score to 9-1 with 4:50 remaining in the first half.
Scheibling scored the 10th Duck goal thanks to a gorgeous feed from Quinn, and Loria tallied three consecutive scores to put the Ducks ahead 13-1. All three of her goals came on free-position shots, the third coming with 26:36 left in the game.
Quinn, Lalli, and freshman Lindsay Daly scored the final three Stevens goals as the Ducks have now totaled 16 or more in each game this season.
