HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 20, 2010) – Senior Mary Chew netted the Ducks' first hat-trick since the 2006 season as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over visiting Ramapo College at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. With the win the Ducks, ranked 19th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/HendrickCars.com poll and 22nd in the D3Soccer.com national rankings, improved to 13-2-1 overall on the year, while the Roadrunners fell to 5-11-0 on the season.

Finding a lot of open space early, Stevens got things going in the 10th minute, taking a 1-0 advantage at the 9:22 mark on Chew's first tally of the evening. Running down the right-side, the senior midfielder corralled a cross headed down by a Ramapo defender before rifling a shot into the roof the Ramapo netting for her fourth goal of the season.

After junior Kathleen Schuckers  sent a shot from the top-right corner of the 18-yard box off the crossbar at 12:19 – narrowly missing an opportunity to put the Ducks up two – the West Deptford, N.J. native struck again, this time deflecting a Sarah Lehman shot into the back of the Roadrunner goal at 16:10.

Continuing to apply much of the pressure, Stevens, which held a decisive 13-2 first-half shot advantage, fired seven tries through the remainder of the frame before Ramapo's Rebecca Maccia (Point Pleasant, N.J.) notched the just the Roadrunners second shot of the half in the 43rd minute.

Hoping to pick up where they left off, Stevens continued to push forward to start the second, tallying the stanza's first shot on net at 47:54 on a Kathryn Stascavage try that tested Ramapo junior goalkeeper Alyssa Krall (Toms River, N.J.). Krall would punch the Brookfield, Conn. native's shot from the right side of the box away, but freshman Jessie Wos was right there for the rebound, tapping it past the Roadrunner goal line for her first collegiate marker.

Looking to rebound, Ramapo created its first great scoring chance of the night at the 51:23 mark when freshman Sarah Barnes (Sayreville, N.J.) sent a cross from the right-side that found senior Kimberly Bruno (Middletown, N.J.) alone in the box, but the forward pushed the ensuing shot just high of the Ducks' bar from six-yards out.

Following a Stevens' hand-ball in the 54th minute, Roadrunners' freshman Karol Gomez (Woodbridge, N.J.) sent a shot from just above the 18-yard box over the Ducks' wall, but junior Kaitlyn McClymont smothered the free-kick to preserve the shutout.

In the 58th minute, Wos very nearly tallied her second career goal, curling a long shot from the right toward the back left post, but Krall made a tremendous diving save to her right to keep Ramapo within three. Continuing to plug away despite the deficit, the Roadrunners finally broke through at 88:16, when Bruno beat McClymont to a long through-ball to the left-side, tracking down the pass before eluding the Ducks' goalkeeper and sliding the ball into an open net.

Stevens responded by closing out scoring with just 13 seconds remaining, when sophomore Gia Gonzales sent a corner-kick from the left-side off the far post that found its way to Chew who lifted a shot over Krall for her third tally of the match.

The Ducks, who finished with a 22-8 shot advantage and a 6-2 edge in corners, return to action on Saturday, October 23 against Empire 8 rival Hartwick College.
