Women's Volleyball Sweeps Alfred And Nazareth To Extend Win-Streak

ITHACA, N.Y. (October 22, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team upped its win-streak to 14-matches, by opening up play at the second Empire 8 Crossover Weekend with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-5, 25-7) of Alfred University and a 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 31-29) victory over Nazareth College at Ben Light Gymnasium in Ithaca, N.Y. The Ducks continue Crossover action on Saturday, October 23 against Utica College and host Ithaca College.

Senior Maggie Majcher led the Ducks' attack, hammering home 28 kills in a pair of matches with 10 digs. The Rahway, N.J. native now sits four kills shy of becoming just the third student-athlete in program history to notch 1,000 career kills. Sophomore Maggie Kowalska finished the day with 22 kills, while senior setter Sara Budar dished out 66 assists. Fellow senior Julia Reilly collected 31 digs in the Stevens' pair of victories.

Stevens 3, Alfred, 0 (25-17, 25-5, 25-7)
The Ducks began the match hitting .300 en route to a 25-17 first set victory before tallying a .429 hitting percentage in a 25-5 set two win. Stevens sealed the sweep, hitting a match-best .522 in a 25-7 third set triumph.

Majcher hit .391 for the match with 12 kills, three blocks, and three digs, while Kowalska, who hit .583, and junior Amethyst Holder finished with eight and seven kills respectively. Budar had 26 assists in the victory, while Reilly chipped in with 14 digs.

Stevens 3, Nazareth 0 (25-19, 25-11, 31-29)
After scoring a hard-fought 25-19 first set victory, Stevens posted a .500 hitting percentage en route to a 25-11 second set win and 2-0 match lead. The Ducks sealed the match with a well-earned 31-29 third set triumph.

Majcher, who hit .467, and Holder each notched a match-high 16 kills, with the duo combining for 20 digs. Kowalska added nine kills and four digs, while freshman Chrissy Dickinson finished with eight kills and a .412 attack percentage. Budar dished out a match-best 40 assists, while Reilly had 17 digs.

Outside hitter Carra Vanderstyne (Victor, N.Y.) led Nazareth with 10 kills, while junior middle blocker Ashlee Travis (Hammondsport, N.Y.) and senior Megan Rogers (Liverpool, N.Y.) added four kills each. Sophomore setter Brittany Crocetti (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied 26 assists in the loss.
