Majcher Surpasses 1,000-Kill Plateau As Women's Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches With Utica And Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. (October 23, 2010) – Senior outside hitter Maggie Majcher became just the third Duck to surpass the 1,000 career kills plateau, as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Utica College 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-10) to begin the second day of the Empire 8 Crossover Weekend before dropping the nightcap at Ben Light Gymnasium to host Ithaca College 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 25-13). With the split the Ducks moved to 27-5 overall on the season with a 5-3 record against conference opponents.

After scoring a three-set sweep over Pioneers, the Ducks entered their showdown with the Bombers looking to extend their win-streak to 16 matches. Trailing 1-0 after a tough, 26-24, loss to Ithaca in the first set, the Ducks rebounded, hitting a match-best .314 to take set two, 25-17. The Bombers responded by taking the pivotal third set, 25-19, before closing out the match with a 25-13 fourth set triumph.

Sophomore outside hitter Maggie Kowalska led the Ducks with 14 kills and seven blocks, while Majcher added nine kills. Junior Amethyst Holder had 10 kills and eight digs, while senior setter Sara Budar had a match-high 39 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Chrissy Dickinson added eight kills and three blocks, while senior libero Julia Reilly collected 14 digs in defense.

Ithaca's Jessica Hoeffner led the Bombers attack with 17 kills and three blocks, while Chelsea Hayes and Kate Thoene each added 11 kills – with Hayes also recording 13 digs. Taylor Horton finished with 10 kills for Ithaca, while Marissa Woodcome and Sydney Folk chipped in with 22 and 15 assists, respectively.

Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, October 27 when it hosts Polytechnic University.
