Women's Volleyball Captures Fifth-Straight With 3-0 Sweep Of Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (October 6, 2010) – Behind senior Maggie Majcher and sophomore Maggie Kowalska the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team captured its fifth-consecutive dual-match victory with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) sweep of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the win the Ducks moved to 17-4 overall on the season, while the Brewers fell to 8-9 on the year.

Stevens opened the match with a 25-18 first set victory before taking a 2-0 match lead with a 25-22 triumph in the second set. The Ducks closed out the match with a 25-20 triumph in set three, hitting a match-best .447.

Majcher finished with 15 kills and nine digs, while Kowalska added 11 kills. Junior Amethyst Holder added eight kills and 10 digs in the win, while senior setter Sara Budar dished out 35 assists. Fellow senior Julia Reilly collected 24 digs in defense, while junior Kate Janes added six kills.

Junior captain Amy Bavosa (Eastport, N.Y.) and sophomore Chloe McGuire (Davis, Calif.) led the Brewers' offense with seven and six kills, respectively, while sophomore setter Hilary Koenigs (Spokane, Wash.) handed out 19 helpers. Senior Chelsea Mottern (Bound Brook, N.J.) chipped in with 13 digs in the loss.

The Ducks return to action at the SUNY Cortland Tournament on October 8-9.
