ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 9, 2010) – Despite sophomore Brittany Odgers fourth goal of the season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped a heart-breaking, 2-1, double-overtime decision to Empire 8 rival Nazareth College at Flyer Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. With the loss the Ducks fell to 10-2-1 overall on the season with a 2-2 league ledger, while the Golden Flyers improved to 7-5 on the year with an unblemished 4-0 mark against conference opponents.

Ducks' freshman Bridgette Barden generated a couple of chances in the early going, pushing a pair of shots wide of net within the first fifteen minutes of action, but Nazareth responded by firing the match's next three tries, culminating in a shot from sophomore Amanda Sudore (Ontario, N.Y.) that prompted a save from Stevens' junior goalkeeper Kaitlin McClymont.

Undeterred, the Golden Flyers continued to apply pressure, breaking through in the 34th minute on a Kaylee Benz (Truxton, N.Y.) goal – her second of the season – off a Meghan Finn (Cortland, N.Y.) assist. Just over two and a half minutes later, freshman midfielder Kaile Bushey (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) very nearly put Nazareth up 2-0, beating McClymont with a shot that caromed off the Duck post.

Bushey would get another chance in the 37th minute, when the Plattsburgh, N.Y. sent a shot over the Stevens' crossbar, before Barden recorded the Ducks' first shot since the 16th minute at 42:47 mark of the first half.

Hoping to climb right back into it, Stevens notched the equalizer just over three minutes into the start of the second stanza, when sophomore Brittany Odgers tallied her fourth marker of the season on the Ducks' first shot of the frame.

The sophomore standout raced into the box in pursuit of a through-ball before colliding with Nazareth's senior keeper Hillary Simon (Homer, N.Y.) – who came off her line in attempt to cut-off the streaking Stevens attacker – but Odgers quickly regained possession, pushing the ball over the endline to knot the match at a goal apiece.

The Golden Flyers answered by taking the match's next five shots, but McClymont made three crucial saves during Nazareth's push to help preserve the 1-1 tie. At 84:12, freshman Becky Wos ended the Ducks' offensive drought, tallying the team's first shot since Odgers' game-tying goal in the 49th minute, but Simon was there to make the save – her second of the afternoon – to keep it level at the end of regulation.

Nazareth fired a pair of shots in the first overtime session, but neither found its mark, as the teams headed into a second extra period. The Golden Flyers continued to test McClymont and the Ducks' backline at the start of the second overtime, putting a pair of shots on goal within the first three minutes of action, but Stevens' junior keeper was up for the challenge, recording her eighth and ninth saves of the day.

Nazareth finally broke through in the 104th minute, when freshman midfielder Julia Teran Pulford (Owego, N.Y.) sent in a cross from the right-side that found senior forward Erica Conte (Caledonia, N.Y.), who put away the game-winner.

Stevens will look to rebound on Sunday, October 10 when it faces league rival Alfred University.
