Wrestling Splits Four Matches At John Reece Duals

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (November 13, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team, ranked 18th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Brute-Adidas Preseason Poll, split a pair of matches at the John Reece Duals hosted By Wilkes University, defeating King's College (41-9) and the College of Mount St. Joseph (22-19) before falling to the host Colonials (24-12) and SUNY Cortland (32-6).

“Both Leo Dormann and Ryan Dormann stepped up big and had solid performances today,” said head coach Mike Clayton. “Our whole team is still working to get into a rhythm. When that happens I'll be excited to see what we can do.”

The Ducks return to action on Saturday, November 20 at the Doug Parker Invitational in Springfield, Mass.

Ling got the Ducks off to a good start at 125-lbs. by pinning Dorsey just 2:14 into the bout. Boehm then notched the Ducks' second-straight victory, pinning Biesadesky 34 seconds into the 133-lb. showdown. DiLiello kept the momentum going with a 17-0 win by technical fall over Straight at 141-lbs. before Caserta defeated Custer by technical fall (17-0) in a match-up of 149-pounders.

Desir notched King's first win of the match with a 6-3 decision over Browne in the 157-lb. weight class, but Leo and Ryan Dormann got Stevens back on track, scoring wins at 165-lbs. and 174-lbs., respectively. After Reilly pinned Sharkey at 185-lbs., Termini won by fall just two second into the second period in a 197-lb. bout with Matis. Schmalz closed out the match with a hard-fought 3-1 decision over Corigliano.

Tuttle opened the match with an 8-5 decision over Ling at 125-lbs., before Boehm scored a 16-5 major decision win over Wheeler in the 133-lb. bout. Fellers pinned Pestana at 141-lbs., while Caserta earned his second-consecutive 149-lb. win of the day with a 9-5 decision over Conrad.

Fehring downed Browne, 7-1, at 157-lbs., while Leo Dormann defeated Disbennet, 4-0, in the 165-lb. weight class. Ryan Dormann followed it up by pinning Meineke 2:47 into a 174-lb. match-up before Karwoski earned a 19-7 major decision over Sharkey. 197-pounder Termini then pinned Burk 49 seconds into the second period before Jameson closed out the match with a 2-1 decision over Schmalz.

Mendoza began the match with a 17-0 win by technical fall over Warren at 125-lbs. before Boehm went to 3-0 on the afternoon with a 3-1 decision over Uliano. Fisher pinned DiLiello 36 seconds into the third period in a match at 141-lbs., before Dattolo delt Caserta her first loss of the day with a 7-2 decision at 149-lbs.

White then defeated Browne, 3-0, at 157-lbs. before Holden earned his first win with an 8-6 decision over Dixon. Ryan Dormann scored his third win of the day with a 5-1 triumph over Stough, while Transue notched a 15-1 major decision over Sharkey at 184-lbs. Termini continued to wrestle well at 197-lbs., earning his third win of the duals with a 4-1 decision over Grey before Smith defeated Schmalz 5-1 a bout between two heavyweights.

After a medical forfeit at 125-lbs., Bistis defeated Boehm 4-0 in the 133-lb. weight class. Chernaskey earned a 4-2 decision over DiLiello at 141-lbs., while Berry scored a 4-2 decision over Caserta. Sterling defeated Browne, 9-4, at 157-lbs., while Leo Dormann earned a win at 165-lbs.

Maldanado scored a 13-0 major decision victory over Sharkey in the 174-lb. bout, while Ryan Dormann moved to 4-0 on the day with a 7-0 decision over Brown at 184-lbs. Korpi would deal termini his first loss, winning by major decision (16-6) at 197-lbs., before Jones closed out the match with a win over Moyer.
