POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (November 14, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team won four matches on Sunday at the Vassar College Invitational, including victories over two Division I schools in Sacred Heart University and Army in their first team intercollegiate competition of the year. Four Ducks had double-digit victories on the day.

Sophomore epeeist Krystal Perkins led the Ducks with a 13-3 record. Seniors Meagan Ritter and Stephanie Spelman also had nice days at epee, posting 11-7 and 8-2 dockets, respectively.

At sabre, Juliet Turalski and Krista Sticco each had 12 wins against only five and six losses, respectively. Sophomore Clara Luneke was undefeated on the day in sabre with an unblemished 6-0 mark.

Junior Ann Destefano posted a 9-7 record to lead the corps of foil fencers for Stevens.

The Ducks defeated Sacred Heart 18-9 after losing matches to the Crusdaers each of the last two seasons.

“We were 4-2, which is pretty good,” said head coach Linda Vollkommer-Lynch. “It will be fun to see if we can get a few more touches against Wellesley when we play them next week and knock them off next time.”

Stevens will take on the Blue and three other teams next Sunday, November 21 at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. beginning at 10 a.m.
