Defense Lifts No. 11 Women's Lacrosse to 7-4 Win Over Bowdoin; Ducks Improve to 3-0 on Young Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 15, 2010) – The No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology  women's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought, 7-4 win over Bowdoin College on Monday afternoon at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Senior captain Shannon McFadden made 11 saves in goal, and the rest of the Stevens defense did a nice job all afternoon as the Ducks improve to 3-0 to start the 2010 season. Stevens will return to action on its Spring Break trip in San Antonio on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (ET) against SUNY Oswego.

Stevens jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Bowdoin (1-1) battled back to make it a 4-3 game at halftime. The Bears tied the game at four apiece less than five minutes into the second hald, but Stevens scored the last three goals of the game to earn the win.

Sophomore Ashley Carey, senior captain Kate Cox and senior Kara Borzillo played strong for the defense, while juniors Leah Wasserman and Christine Smith each scored twice for the Ducks. Senior Alyssa Pigott, freshman Spencer Waybright, and Cox each netted one goal for the Ducks.

Each team scooped up 20 ground balls and Stevens was credited with three caused turnovers. The Bears earned six draw controls while the Ducks corralled three. Smith, Cox, and sophomore Lindsay Daly all picked up a team-high three ground balls for Stevens.
