HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 4, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team again rallied from an early deficit, securing their second victory of the season with another double-overtime thriller. Stevens, which trailed in the early going on an own goal, later benefited from a Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham own goal with just over three minutes remaining in the second extra session to wrap-up a 3-2 win. Stevens improved to 2-0 with the victory, while the Devils fell to 0-2.

FDU-Florham took the early advantage just 2:46 into the match on a Stevens own goal off a Devils' corner kick. Hoping to increase their advantage, FDU continued to apply pressure, firing the match's next three shots on goal over the next five minutes of action, culminating in a Lora Fink (Hamilton Square, N.J.) try that ricocheted off the Stevens' post.

Stevens would create several chances of their own during the first 45, most notably on a Katria Misilo shot that prompted a save by FDU goalkeeper Melanie Pierson (Brookside, N.J.) in the 34th minute, but the Ducks were unable to break through as the Devils took a 1-0 edge into the locker room.

Stevens continued to push forward at the start of the second, firing the frame's first three shots before pulling level on a Misilo goal off a Kathleen Schuckers assist at 57:34. Schuckers made a run down the right side before sending a cross across the face of the goal past the goalkeeper at the six-yard box, finding a sliding Misilo who put away the Ducks' first marker.

Schuckers, who generated several scoring opportunities during the afternoon, notched her own tally minutes later, scoring an unassisted marker in the 62nd minute, when she beat Pierson to a ball at the top of the 18-yard box, sliding it past the charging netminder into the empty goal.

Fink, who recorded a match-high six shots on the day, knotted the score at two in the 78th minute off a Brittany Kanickij (Hamilton, N.J.) assist. Both teams would muster a shot before the end of regulation, but neither proved able to convert, sending the match into overtime.

Misilo fired the extra session's first shot at the 92:11 mark, but Pierson was there to make the save, preserving the tie. After a pair of FDU tries threatened to break the deadlock, Stevens sophomore Gia Gonzales fired a shot on goal with under a minute left in the first overtime, but Pierson again turned it away to keep it 2-2.

With both teams unable to get a shot on net over the first six minutes of the second extra session the closely-contested match seemed destined to end in a draw, but FDU-Florham committed a costly miscue at the 106:55 mark, putting the ball in its own net to give Stevens the hard-fought win.

The Devils finished the match with a 17-16 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corners, while a pair of Ducks' goalkeepers combined for 10 saves. Pierson finished with seven saves for FDU.

Stevens will wrap up play at the FDU-Tournament tomorrow, Sunday, September 5 against Albright College.
