No. 21 TCNJ Downs Women's Swimming, 146-116

EWING, N.J. (January 30, 2011) – No. 21 The College of New Jersey downed the eighth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team on Sunday afternoon in a dual-meet in Ewing, N.J. In what was one of the fastest head-to-head meets in the nation this year, Stevens won six of the 14 events on the afternoon and is now 3-1 on the 2010-11 season.

In the first event of the afternoon, the team of senior Gabrielle Cznernik, sophomore Marissa Douglas, freshman Louise Moores, and senior Laura Barito earned a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.30, edging out TCNJ (10-0) by .39 on the clock.

Sophomore Victoria Baldwin carded a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, turning in a 10:47.87, and junior Kim McCaffrey took fourth with a 10:57.01. Junior Sian Pearson and Douglas went second and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking times of 1:56.31 and 1:58.88, respectively, while Moores tallied the Ducks' first individual win of the afternoon in the 100-yard backstroke (59.06). Freshman Megan Lisbon was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.65.

Czernik was Stevens' best finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a 1:07.60 and placing third, while Pearson was Stevens' second winner of the day, taking the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.10. Senior co-captain Amanda Nauman was third in the 200-fly.

Barito was second by one one-hundreth of a second in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 23.61, and junior Hayley Hatfield took third (25.14). Barito missed a first in the 100-free by .50, notching a 52.25, and Hatfield again placed third (55.07).

Lisbon earned a victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:10.33 and Czernik turned in a second-place performance in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.26. Pearson and Douglas took second and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.61, 5:14.52), while Moores and Czernik finished second and third in the 100-yard butterfly (58.15, 59.92). Douglas earned a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 2:12.25, with Lisbon taking third (2:17.63).

In the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Pearson, Hatfield, Moores, and Barito carded a 3:34.62 in winning the event by almost nine seconds.

The Ducks will return to action at Hartwick College on February 5 for a dual-meet at 1 p.m.
