Box Score 2 HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 15, 2011) – On Saturday, October 15, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team dropped both matches in a tri-match at Canavan Arena on Senior Day. The Ducks fell to Averett University, 3-0, in the opening match, and then was on the wrong end of a 3-1 decision to SUNY New Paltz. Stevens has a week off before traveling up to Rochester, N.Y. for the second round of Empire 8 Conference crossover play.
In the three-set loss, 25-19, 25-14, 26-24, senior Kate Janes (Warwick, N.Y.) and sophomore Chrissy Dickinson (Issaquah, Wash.) led the Ducks with eight kills each. Janes also paced Stevens with five blocks and added four digs, while Dickinson chipped in two blocks and two digs.
Junior Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) tallied a team-high 10 digs to go along with four blocks and a service ace. Sophomore Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) dished out a team-best 13 assists with five digs.
Stevens' sophomore Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) both recorded two kills, while Caulson also registered six digs and two blocks.
In the four-set falter to New Paltz, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18, Kowalska led all players with 17 kills and added seven digs.
Gates put together a solid effort for the Ducks with a match-high 44 assists and chipped in eight digs and two kills.
Janes and Dickinson combined for 21 kills and four blocks in the loss. Janes tallied 10 kills and two blocks, while Dickinson recorded 11 kills and two blocks as well.
Sophomore Hannah Gasper (Bourne, Mass.) paced the Ducks back line with 13 digs, while Caulson registered five kills and four digs.
Stevens plays three matches at St. John Fisher College next weekend on October 21 and 22. The Ducks will take on Alfred University, Elmira College and Ithaca College over the two-day event.
