Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 19, 2011) – In a rain-soaked affair at De Baun Athletic Complex on Wednesday night, October 19, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against The College of New Jersey. Both teams entered the game ranked nationally in the latest NSCAA poll, as Stevens was 22nd and TCNJ was 20th. The Ducks are now 9-3-3 on the season, while the Lions are 9-2-2.
TCNJ jumped out to an early first half lead in the 18th minute as the first shot by Amy Van Dyk (Wyckoff, N.J.) was blocked but her follow-up strike beat Ducks senior Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas).
McClymont proved to be a difference maker in the contest, as she stopped 16 shots throughout the 110 minutes of action and two of her saves preserved the game for Stevens. In the 28th minute, McClymont made a sprawling kick save to force a Lions corner. With 2:25 left in the first overtime, she dove to her left, and with a fingertip save, deflected the ball wide of the net.
The Lions applied constant pressure on the Ducks defense, taking 33 shots to Stevens' 8, but the Ducks backs contested numerous shot attempts. TCNJ also held an 11-2 advantage in corners.
Stevens knotted the game up midway through the second half on a shot by sophomore Kyle Stephens (Lansing, Mich.). Stephens took a pass from freshman Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) and beat the outstretched arms of the Lions' goaltender in the 68th minute of play.
In other Empire 8 action on the day, Ithaca College topped Elmira College to secure a spot for the Ducks in the conference postseason tournament. With the berth, Stevens extends its postseason streak to 12-straight seasons.
