Women's Volleyball Handles Alfred in Four Sets

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 21, 2011) – In the first match of the final Empire 8 Conference Crossover of the 2011 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Alfred University in four sets, 3-1, at St. John Fisher College on Friday night, October 20. The Ducks are now 14-18 on the season and 4-1 in the Empire 8.

Stevens topped the Saxons, 25-12, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18, and were led by junior Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.), who tallied team-highs of 18 digs and 14 kills for the Ducks. Kowalska also added three kills, an assist and a service ace.

Sophomore Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) paced the Ducks with 26 assists to go along with nine digs and three aces, while senior Andrea Bucko (Union, N.J.) handed out 12 assists.

Ducks sophomore Chrissy Dickinson (Issaquah, Wash.) was an offensive and defensive force at the net with 11 kills and a team-best four total blocks. Dickinson hit for a .556 percentage in the win.

Senior Kate Janes (Warwick, N.Y.) and sophomore Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) combined for 13 digs and 10 kills. Janes posted eight digs and four kills, while Caulson registered six kills and five digs.

The freshmen duo of Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) and Reanin Glah (West Chester, Pa.) put together solid efforts for Stevens. Hall totaled 10 points with eight kills and two aces, while Glah chipped in four kills, three aces and three digs.

Stevens is back on the court tomorrow for two matches against Elmira College and Ithaca College. The Ducks will take on the Soaring Eagles at 10 a.m., and then square off with the Bombers at 3 p.m. Stevens played Elmira earlier this season and lost in three sets in Hoboken.
