Box Score ELMIRA, N.Y. (November 5, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team ended their season in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Championship at Elmira College on Saturday, November 5. Stevens lost in three sets to Nazareth College, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21. The Ducks finished the season 15-23.
Stevens was the third seed of the championship, while Nazareth (25-12) was the two-seed. When the two teams met up in the first round of Empire 8 crossover play on September 25 at Elmira, the Golden Flyers came away with another 3-0 victory.
In the other semifinal match, top-seeded Elmira defeated St. John Fisher College in five sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 25-20, 15-12. The Soaring Eagles move onto the finals where they will take on Nazareth for an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
Sophomore Chrissy Dickinson (Issaquah, Wash.) recorded seven kills and four total blocks en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Junior Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) led the Ducks with eight kills and chipped in six digs and four blocks. Sophomore Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) handed out a team-high 20 assists and and posted a team-best eight digs.
The Ducks end their season by losing their last five matches and eight of their last 10.
