HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 13, 2011) - Junior Krista Sticco bested the all-time Stevens Institute of Technology career sabre wins record of 139 as the women's fencing team split its first six home matches of the year, earning wins over Queens College, Farleigh Dickenson University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Senior Alexandra Lyons reached career win no. 100 as she vaulted into second place on the school's all-time foil list.

The Ducks dropped matches to Johns Hopkins University, Brandeis College and Temple University.

Though facing some very tough competition, both the epee and foil squads boasted at least four fencers each with records of .500 or better. Scoring in epee were senior captain Meagan Ritter (11-7), sophomore Krystal Perkins (10-8), freshman Sienna Batzli (6-4) and senior Stephanie Spelman (4-4). Spelman was the only Duck to down an Owl from Temple University on Sunday, while Perkins now sits on a total of 99 wins for her career.

Junior classmates Alexis Clyburn, Ann Destefano and Lyons were all solid, with records of 8-8, 9-8 and 9-9, respectively, in foil. Sophomores Stephanie Arough and Brittany Crosby chipped in as well as they both went 1-1.

In sabre, sophomore Juliet Turalski led the squad with a 11-7 record and classmate Chelsea Shupe went 3-2 for a good showing. Sticco finished her record-breaking day with eight victories.

The Ducks will be back in action one week from Sunday, as the team hosts the EWFC Team Championships on February 20 in Canavan Arena. That event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
