ORLANDO, Fla. (March 15, 2011) – Sophomore midfielder Spencer Waybright scored five goals to lead the No. 9 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team to a 20-13 win over the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Fla. The Ducks, now 2-1 on the season, have defeated two NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship participants from 2010 in Montclair State University and CMS. Senior captain Leah Wasserman notched a game-six points on four goals and four helpers.

The game was close throughout before the Ducks were able to pull away in the final minutes for the seven-goal win. After 30 minutes of action, the Ducks went into intermission leading 9-7, with the Mudd Scripps (4-1) scoring four of the second half's first six goals to tie the game at 11 midway through the second. Stevens was able to score nine of the final 11 to earn the victory.

In addition to Waybright and Wasserman, the Ducks were led by sophomore Joey Gallingan with three goals and an assist, and senior Pamela Loria with two goals and two assists. Junior Jenna Scheibling had four points thank to a goal and three helpers, while junior Michelle Buonacuore found the back of the net three times.

Senior midfielder Christine Smith scored twice, handed out one assist, and controlled a season- and game-high seven draw controls for the Ducks.

Sophomore midfielder Teegan Kelly played strong on the defensive side of the field for the Ducks, limiting CMS senior attacker Sarah Dick (Beverly, Mass.) to two goals. Dick played a huge role in a pair of CMS wins over St. John Fisher College and Bates College earlier this season. Junior defender Ashley Carey secured two draw controls in a strong defensive effort for the Ducks, while senior defender Kate Cox was solid as well. Sophomore Christine Eicher turned in a quality effort off the bench for Stevens.

Leading CMS was sophomore Madi Shove (Portola Valley, Calif.) and her four goals.

Stevens will return to action on March 21 when it opens the home portion of its 2011 schedule against No. 12 Tufts University. Opening draw is slated for 4 p.m. from the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J.
