No. 1 TCNJ downs Ninth-Ranked Women's Lacrosse in Regular-Season Finale

EWING, N.J. (April 28, 2011) – No. 1 The College of New Jersey downed the ninth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team, 17-5, on Thursday night in Ewing, N.J. TCNJ scored the game's first four goals and Stevens was never able to get closer than two the rest of the way. With the win, the Lions improve to 17-0 overall, while the Ducks fall to 13-3. Stevens was led by three goals from senior Pamela Loria and two from senior Christine Smith.

The Lions went up 4-0 just 5:03 into the game with two tallies coming from senior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, N.J.). The Ducks were able to get back into the contest, scoring three of the next four to cut the lead to 5-3 with 14:54 to play in the first, but the Lions separated themselves, closing the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 10-3 lead into the locker room.  Loria had two of the first three Stevens markers in the first half.

The Lions scored the first five goals in the second period, taking their run to 10-0 to hold a 15-3 advantage with 14:16 left. Smith and Loria scored once apiece to make it 15-5 with a little more than seven minutes on the clock, but the Lions recorded the final two goals of the game for the final margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meg Collins had two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and three saves in the loss. Junior Lindsay Daly scooped up two ground balls, while sophomore Teegan Kelly and sophomore Joey Galligan each had two draw controls.

The Lions ended the contest with a 26-8 edge in shots and a 9-7 advantage in ground balls. They also won 18-of-24 draw controls.

Jaeger finished with five points on four goals and one assists, with junior Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, N.J.) scored six times and controlled four draws.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday, May 7 when it begins play in the Empire 8 Championship. The top-seeded Ducks will take on fourth-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology at 12 p.m. Second-seeded Nazareth College and third-seeded Ithaca College will square off in the second semifinal with the winners meeting at a time to be determined on Sunday. All the action from the tournament will be held at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. and will be webcast live at www.PennAtlantic.com.
