Women's Volleyball Has Tough Second Day at Haverford

(September 4, 2011) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team played two matches against two nationally-ranked top-ten teams and lost both matches by identical 3-0 scores. In the first game, the Ducks played No. 8 California Lutheran University, and in the second match, they competed against No. 4 Christopher Newport University.

The Ducks have suffered three-straight losses for only the fourth time since 2002.

Against the Regals, Stevens dropped all three sets, 25-12, 25-12, 25-19. Junior Maggie Kowalska paced the Ducks with six kills and two blocks, while sophomore Chrissy Dickinson chipped in four kills and two blocks.

Sophomore Samantha Gates recorded a team-high 11 assists for Stevens. Fellow sophomore Mikayla Floyd chipped in six digs in the loss.

In the straight-sets defeat to the Captains (25-18, 25-16, 25-16), Gates once again led the Ducks with 19 assists, while sophomore Hannah Gasper registered 11 digs.

Kowalska posted seven kills in the loss, and Dickinson led the Ducks with eight kills and three blocks.

Stevens has five days off before traveling to the Vassar College Tournament on September 9 and 10 where it will play four more matches against the Brewers, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Montclair State University and Wesleyan University. The Ducks will play MIT and Montclair on the 9th, then compete against Wesleyan and Vassar on the 10th.
