WEST POINT, N.Y. (January 21, 2012) – In their first action of the new year, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team (13-1) went 6-0 at the United States Military Academy Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Ducks took down the University of Detroit, Lafayette College, City College of New York, Cleveland State University, Hunter College and host Army, all by at least an 18-9 final. Junior sabreist Juliet Turalski (Maplewood, N.J.) was undefeated (14-0) on the day.

Nearly every Duck on the roster was able to earn a win on the day. Epee was 6-0 as a squad, with Sienna Batzli (Maplewood, N.J.) and Briana Nieradka (West Windsor, N.J.) leading the way at 13-1. Krystal Perkins (Palmdale, Calif.) returned to competition for the first time this year and went 12-1. Margaret Clinton (North Caldwell, N.J.) was a perfect 3-0, while Emily Heisler (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Rebecca Merrick (Bayonne, N.J.) posted .500 records on Saturday.

In addition to Turalski's unblemished record, Krista Sticco (Leonia, N.J.) was 13-2 at sabre, while Emily Brandsdorfer (Dix Hills, N.Y.) went 7-2 and Chelsea Shupe (Montague, N.J.) was a solid 5-4.

Foil was another bright spot, with senior Alexis Clyburn (Hillside, N.J.) going 13-2, Taia Harrison (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) posting a 14-2 record, Ann Destefano (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) going 10-3, Stephanie Arough (South Brunswick, N.J.) going 3-2 and Trinity Sheppard posting an even 3-3 mark.

The Ducks have won 11 matches in a row, just one win away from equaling their longest all-time winning streak. They will look to eclipse it next weekend at the University of New Hampshire Invitational on January 29.
