BALTIMORE, Md. (January 21, 2012) – The No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team fell at No. 4 Johns Hopkins University Saturday by a 160-97 final. Senior Sian Pearson (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and freshman Brittany Geyer (Brunswick, Ohio) led the Ducks who fell to 2-1 in dual-meets this season with the loss. Hopkins moves to 7-0 with the win.
Sophomore Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.), Geyer, freshman Sharon Rooker (Forest Grove, Ore.) and senior Hayley Hatfield (Dallas, Texas) earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay to start the day, clocking a 1:50.50, while Pearson notched a second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.57.
Moores was second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.72), with Geyer checking in third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.96). Pearson took home a victory in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:11.91, and Moores was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.92.
Hatfield was second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.96), Rooker was the same in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.75) as was Geyer in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.23).
Pearson placed third in the 500-yard freestyle with her time of 5:10.71, while Moores took second in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a 59.68. Geyer earned a win in the 400-yard individual medley with a 4:42.86 to complete a solid day.
The Ducks will return to action on January 28 at SUNY New Paltz. They will then return home for a dual with The College of New Jersey. That meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start and all the action can be seen live at www.Empire8.tv.
