HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 12, 2012) – Senior opposite hitter Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) became the all-time leader in career kills in a 3-0 victory for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team over Hunter College on Senior Night in Canavan Arena on October 12. Kowalska finished the match with 21 kills to total 1,573 for her career, surpassing the old mark by one. Friday evening's match also kicked off Homecoming Weekend at Castle Point.

Stevens was tested by the Hawks in the first two sets, 26-24, 27-25, but blew away Hunter in the final set, 25-10, to complete the sweep. Kowalska tallied eight kills in the first set, five in the second and eight more in the third to topple Dawn Herring '07 from the top of the career kills list.

Kowalska hit .395 for the match and also paced the Ducks with 13 digs. She already set the program standards in block assists and total blocks this season and now sets her sights on the school-record for points, which is 1,892. She is currently 101 points from tying that mark.

Fellow senior Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in two kills, a block and a dig for Stevens. Junior setter Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) dished out a match-high 37 assists to go along with five digs and three service aces.

Three other Ducks registered six kills each in junior outside hitter Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.), sophomore middle hitter Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) and freshman outside hitter Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.). Caulson added six digs, while Hall hit at a .286 clip and Thomas hit .294 in the match.

Junior libero Hannah Gasper (Bourne, Mass.) nearly reached double-digits digs with nine for Stevens.

Stevens will be on the road for the remainder of the season but could return back to Canavan if the team earns the top seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Conference tournament on November 3 and 4. The Ducks play against on October 17 at NYU-Poly for a 7 p.m. start in Brooklyn.
