POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (October 3, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team was swept on the road by Vassar College on Wednesday evening, 3-0. Stevens has dropped both matches to the Brewers this season and are now 7-13 on the year. The Ducks host the second round of Empire 8 Conference Crossover play this weekend and will play three matches.
In the straight-sets setback, 25-15, 25-20, 25-23, junior setter
Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) paced Stevens in three major categories with 23 assists, 11 digs and five total blocks.
Two Ducks, senior middle hitter
Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior outside hitter
Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) each recorded seven kills in the contest. Barrett added a block, while Caulson chipped in five digs.
Sophomore middle hitter
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) hit .545 with six kills and three blocks, while junior libero
Hannah Gasper (Bourne, Mass.) tallied seven digs.
Freshman outside hitter
Kristen Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) recorded eight digs.
The Ducks led on four separate occasions in the third set, with their final advantage coming at 20-17 before a Vassar timeout. After the brief break from action, the Brewers went on an 8-3 to end the match.
Stevens plays two conference games against Elmira College and Alfred University at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively on Friday and then return to the court at 12:30 p.m. to wrap up the weekend against Houghton College on Saturday.
