HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 6, 2012) – On the final day of the second Empire 8 Conference Crossover of the 2012 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept Houghton College to improve to 2-1 this weekend. With the win, Stevens is now 9-14 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8 with one more crossover to go at Utica College on October 20-21 before postseason play begins.
The Ducks took straight sets, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19, as senior opposite hitter
Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) paced all players with 17 kills and recorded a .387 hitting percentage. Kowalska also tied a match-high with 14 digs to go along with four blocks.
Junior setter
Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) tallied over 40 assists again with 43 while adding three blocks, three kills, three digs and two service aces. Sophomore middle hitter
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) hit an even .500 with 13 kills in 20 attempts and only three errors, while junior libero
Hannah Gasper (Bourne, Mass.) accumulated 10 digs and a kill.
Senior middle hitter
Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman outside hitter
Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.) each registered five kills in the victory. Junior outside hitter
Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) chipped in nine digs and four blocks for the Ducks.
Stevens plays again on October 10 at New York University for a 6:30 p.m. start. The Ducks then return back to Castle Point for Senior Night on the 12th against Hunter College at 7 p.m. for the team's regular season home finale.
