FAIRFIELD, Conn. (November 11, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team began match play on Sunday and came away with a 6-2 record, including a win over Division I Sacred Heart university. Junior
Briana Nieradka (West Windsor, N.J.) led the way individually with a 16-3 record.
In addition to Sacred Heart, the Ducks knocked off Yeshiva University, Wellesley College, City College of New York, Tufts University and Vassar College. Cornell University and Haverford College got the best of the squad on Sunday, though the epee squad did pull off an impressive 6-3 win over the squad from Cornell.
Krystal Perkins (Palmdale, Calif.) had an impressive 17-4 record as she and Nieradka backboned the epeeists. Freshman
Deanna Quackenbush (Selden, N.Y.) also had a good day at 11-8.
Also posting double-digit wins were sabreists
Juliet Turalski (Maplewood, N.J.),
Zoe To (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and
Chelsea Shupe (Montague, N.J.) and foilists
Taia Harrison (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and
Caroleen Chen (Bedminster, N.J.).
Stephanie Arouh posted a 5-4 record as well for Stevens.
The Ducks will be back in action in a make-up date with New York University on November 29 at 6 p.m. in Manhattan.
