NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 11, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team rolled to a 147-100 win over New York University Saturday afternoon at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Stevens relay squads finished first, second and third. The “A” squad of junior
Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.), sophomore
Brittany Geyer (North Brunswick, Ohio), sophomore
Sharon Rooker (Forest Grove, Ore.) and freshman
Jennifer Rutledge (Suwanee, Ga.) carded a 1:50.67 to earn the victory.
Freshman
Elizabeth Heinbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) nabbed a first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:08.56, while senior
Victoria Baldwin (The Woodlands, Texas) was third (18:38.35).
Senior
Marissa Douglas (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman
Katlyn Christenson (Snohomish, Wash.) finished one-three in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking 1:58.17 and 2:01.61, respectively, with Moores, junior
Megan Lisbon (Woodbridge, Va.) and sophomore
Tiffany Chow (Wellesley, Mass.) sweeping the top-three spots in the 100-yard backstroke (57.78, 1:03.48, 1:05.93). Geyer won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:08.37 and sophomore
April Lawson (Corona, Calif.) was third (1:11.22).
Rooker and sophomore
Maria McClure (Pequannock, N.J.) were first and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.64, 2:22.59), while Rutledge won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.29.Rutledge was third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.93).
Rooker and Lisbon were second and third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.93, 2:16.95), and Geyer pocketed her second win of the meet in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.66. She was followed by freshman
Elena Piper (Chesapeake, Va.) in second place (2:35.24).
Heinbach won the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:18.06 and Douglas was second with her 5:21.27. Moores tallied a 58.54 in taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly. Heinbach would have earned a win in the 400-yard individual medley with a 4:39.67, and the same is true for the 400-yard freestyle relay team as Rutledge, Rooker, sophomore
Nicole Miller (Peoria, Ill.) and Moores combined to turn in a 3:40.76.
Stevens swimmers ended up earning the top time in 12 of 14 events on the day. The Ducks will return to action in their first championship style meet of the season in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. The ECAC's are slated to run from November 30 – December 2 in East Meadow, N.Y.
