HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 19, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team is amongst the national leaders in a variety of statistical categories according to the latest release from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Ducks, who have an overall mark of 3-3 and are 2-0 in the Empire 8, host Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Hoboken, N.J.
As a team, the Ducks are sixth in penalty corners per game (14.33) and 26th in assists per game (2.5). Their 9.83 points per game is 28th, while their 3.67 goals per outing is 30th nationally.
Individually, senior forward
Mary Nikish (Pittsford, N.Y.) is eighth in assists per game (1.17) and 48th in points per game (2.5). Junior forward
Marguerite Chavez (Oceanport, N.J.) is 44th in goals per game (1.0).
The Ducks are currently in first place in the Empire 8 standings with a record of 2-0 after wins over Houghton College and Utica College. The win over the Pioneers avenged the only two regular-season conference defeats the Ducks have suffered since 2008.
Chavez is fifth in the conference in goals (six), while Nikish is third in points (15). Senior goalie
Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) ranks fourth in saves (47).
The Wednesday game against FDU will be broadcast live at www.Empire8.tv from the De Baun Athletic Complex. Stevens will return to conference action with a home game against Ithaca College Saturday at 5 p.m. The Ducks have a half game lead over the Bombers (1-0) and Hartwick College (1-0) in the E8 standings.
