HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 22, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team dominated Alfred University on Saturday afternoon and racked up five goals in the opening period while cruising to a 5-0 victory. Senior
Victor Daza (North Plainfield, N.J.) scored two and added an assist to lead the attack for the Ducks.
Stevens dominated every aspect of the game. The hosts outshot the Saxons 30-9 and did not allow a shot on goal over the entire lopsided first half.
Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) and
Brian Schaake (Southbury, Conn.) split the goalkeeper duties for the Ducks; Schaake took the second frame and made three saves to preserve the shutout.
In addition to Daza's two tallies,
Stephen Dunbar (Johns Creek, Ga.),
Zach Adler (McKinney, Texas) and
Quinn Conner (Newfields, N.H.) also scored for Stevens, which moved to 6-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark in the Empire 8.
Conner also had a hand in two other Stevens goals, assisting on Dunbar's strike to open the match at the 5:34 mark and on Daza's first score at 12:57. In between those Adler scored directly off a corner kick that went off an Alfred defender and into the back of the cage.
Daza returned the favor with an assist on Conner's goal at 17:44.
Jonathan Stallone (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned a point with an assist on the last goal of the day – a 33rd-minute strike by Daza.
After the initial outburst Stevens let up on the gas a bit. The Ducks used 25 players in the match, by far their highest total of the season.
Stevens will play again on Wednesday when the team hosts Polytechnic Institute of New York University at 7 p.m. on the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
