(September 23, 2012) – No. 13 Christopher Newport University defeated Stevens Institute of Technology by a score of 3-2 in a neutral-site non-conference field hockey game Sunday afternoon in Alexandria, Va. The loss drops the Ducks to 5-4 overall, while the Captains improve to 6-1. Senior goalie
Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) made eight saves for the Ducks, with junior
Marguerite Chavez (Oceanport, N.J.) and
Megan Traub (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) tallying the Ducks goals.
Chavez gave Stevens a 1-0 edge in the 20
th minute and that advantage remain until Christopher Newport got on the board at the 41:27 mark of the second half thanks to senior midfielder
Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.). The Captains would score three-straight times, including a marker from sophomore
Belle Tunstall (Vienna, Va.) and another from Cahill, to open up a 3-1 advantage with 6:18 left.
Traub pulled Stevens within one (3-2) with 3:55 on the clock but the Ducks were unable to find the equalizer.
CNU finished with a 21-6 margin in shots and a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Stevens will return to action on Wednesday night when it heads to Radnor, Pa. to take on Cabrini College in a non-conference contest at 6:30 p.m.
